About CSTA Hawaii

WHO ARE WE?

CSTA Hawaii is a membership organization that supports and promotes the teaching of computer science and other computing disciplines. CSTA provides opportunities for K-12 teachers and students to better understand the computing disciplines and to more successfully prepare themselves to teach and learn.

The mission of the Chapter is to further the mission of the CSTA and to serve as the stakeholder group to align our efforts and resources that supports and advocates for CS educational opportunities for all teachers and students in Hawaii.

Brett Tanaka

Computer Science Educational Specialist

Hawaii State Department of Education

Brett is the Computer Science Educational Specialist for the Hawaii State Department of Education and provides statewide computer science education-related support. In addition, he manages the Project Inspire online professional development program designed to assist teachers in the integration of computer science and/or educational technology in the classroom. Brett has also worked in a variety of technology related positions including desktop publishing, Apple/Epson repair technician, network/systems administrator, desktop application trainer and technical support. Brett is a founding member of the Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA) Hawaii CSTA-affiliate chapter has served as Past-President for the Hawai’i Society for Technology in Education (HSTE) ISTE-affiliate chapter. He has a Master’s of Science in Information Systems (MSIS) from Hawaii Pacific University.

Debbie Yoshino

Founder, C2iT LLC and DREAM Team Hawaii

Debbie is the founder of C2iT LLC, an educational consulting company and DREAM Team Hawaii, a non-profit organization building entrepreneurship and financial literacy in our youth. Previously, she worked at Island Pacific Academy, Iolani School, Hawaii's Department of Education, and Hawaiian Electric Company. She graduated with a BS and MS in Computer Science from Stanford University and an MBA from UH Mānoaʻs Shidler College of Business. She holds a Hawaii business teacher certification.
